Despite the obstacles that often come with growing up in such conditions, Leonard’s passion for technology and education has driven him to become a modern tech educator and career choice mentor. His journey began at the Technical University of Kenya, where he pursued a degree in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This academic foundation set the stage for Leonard to become a leader in promoting digital literacy and technological empowerment within his community and beyond. As a micro:bit champion and dedicated STEM educator, Leonard has worked tirelessly to instill a love for technology in students from diverse backgrounds. His work is characterized by a hands-on, interactive approach that not only teaches the technical skills needed in today’s world but also encourages students to think creatively and critically. Leonard's teaching philosophy centers on making technology accessible and exciting for everyone, regardless of their background or gender. Leonard's commitment to his community is exemplified through his involvement with the Bidii Girls Program, where he plays a crucial role in empowering young girls from Kibera through STEM education. He understands the importance of breaking down gender stereotypes, particularly in tech-related fields, where women have traditionally been underrepresented. Leonard believes that by exposing girls to technology early on, he can help build their confidence and inspire them to pursue careers in tech, demonstrating that women can not only succeed but also thrive in this industry. Through the Bidii Girls Program, Leonard conducts hands-on workshops, mentoring sessions, and other educational initiatives that provide young girls with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate the world of modern technology. His work is not just about teaching; it’s about creating a supportive environment where these girls can explore their potential, challenge societal norms, and envision a future where they are leaders in the tech industry. Leonard’s impact extends beyond individual students. By fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment, he is helping to inspire a broader cultural shift within underserved communities. His efforts encourage curiosity, creativity, and a passion for lifelong learning among learners who might otherwise have limited exposure to these opportunities. Leonard's dedication to STEM-based education is not only changing the lives of the girls he mentors but is also contributing to a more equitable and innovative future for all. Through his work, Leonard exemplifies the power of education as a tool for empowerment and change. He continues to be a beacon of hope and inspiration in Kibera and beyond, showing that with the right support and opportunities, anyone can overcome their circumstances and achieve greatness in the world of technology.
